October 12 – Renunciation

Even if you have nothing,
It is hard to find the contentment
Which comes from renunciation.
I accept nothing.
I reject nothing.
And I am happy.

When all feelings, concepts, and thinking are renunciated, you are in a realm where there is neither earth, nor water, nor fire, nor wind… neither this world nor the next, neither sun nor moon. There, is neither coming, nor going, nor remaining; neither deceasing nor being born. Without foundation, without continuity, without support: this is the end of suffering.

Renunciation functions to stop attachment to the impermanant.

Practice renunciation or it will be a serious obstacle to our pure spiritual practice. Just as a bird cannot fly if it has stones tied to its legs, so we cannot make progress on the spiritual path if we are tightly tied down by the chains of attachment.

The time to practice renunciation is now. We need to strive to renounce our attachment to impermance. Attachment to impermance causes suffering.

Life with all its suffering and problems is a great opportunity for us to improve both our renunciation and our compassion. We should not waste this precious opportunity.

The realization of renunciation is the gateway through which we enter the spiritual path to liberation, to know god. Without renunciation, it is impossible even to enter the path to supreme happiness, let alone progress along it.

Listen to the sound of the water. Listen to the water run through chasms and rocks. It is the minor streams that make a loud noise; the great waters flow silently. The hollow resounds and the full is still. Foolishness is like a half filled pot; the wise man is like a lake full of water.
